Finding Your Path
Discovering your life’s work is hard. I've struggled with this question for most of my life. Recently, I asked myself two questions that brought me much closer to clarity. Here they are:
What do I want my legacy to be?
How can I make a satisfactory living right now?
A path that serves both feels like a good direction.
If you focus only on your legacy, you may not be able to pay the bills. If you optimize on today's standard of living, you will chase money and miss your entire life.
Example: If your legacy is increasing financial literacy in the world, working as tax preparer for a few years might make perfect sense. Alignment.
Example: If you are destined to be a personal trainer to the stars, then working at a hot gym in LA could be the perfect step forward. Alignment.
Example: A bad move would be to stay in your stressful marketing job if all you want to do is work with underprivileged kids. Misalignment.
The trick is to earn enough today while doing work aligned with your legacy.
